These are a few of my attempts to learn from Preston Blair's animation book.

I must confess that at this point in my development I'm finding myself going largely off of instinct, maybe out of fear for where I'll find myself when I'm actually forced to go through my knowledge and design something objectively. In that way my drawings show an anarchy that probably stems from a lack of disciplined studies and an overabundance of doodles, which, while fun, do much less to help me grow as a technical artist.

I'm a bit lost from here, not sure how much I have to unlearn before I can begin my progression again, so any guidance would be highly appreciated.

For what it's worth, here's the kind of weird crap I'll usually end up producing

Doodles and other crap

Just thought I'd upload some of my doodles and drawings from a while back.

most of these are from after I discovered the Preston Blair method, so they at least have some principals, or misunderstandings of them...

anyways, here they are.

My semi-satire on the zany and cartoony character arcs of Bone. Not finished, but you get the idea.

Just a couple of doodles that I thought were interesting. Don't ask me what they are.

My exaggerated take on the generic Preston Blair cartoon hand. thought it demonstrated an understanding of some of the principals.

Something I drew after... well, it speaks for itself.

The following images contain drawings of insincere corporate cartoon lies, probably begrudgingly designed by ether Lynn Naylor or Ken Boyer. (and yet I still like them)

My (probably failed) attempt at giving this character a sort of lively Clampett appeal.

Not much to say here, it's disjointed, the proportions are off, and I used a freaking anime symbol, but I still think there's something appealing about it, mostly in the head. (or in my head)

I'll post some of my actual Cartoon School lessons in a while. I just thought I'd post some of my own stuff first to see if I had applied any of the principals to them.

Feel free to tear these apart. I've got little respect for these drawings, and would love to hear what I'm doing wrong.

Public Apology to John K

Hi. I'm Mattieshoe.

You may know me from some of my senseless ramblings about a television show called "Animaniacs" on John K's blog, "All Kinds of Stuff"

I come here today to publicly apologize To John K and all animation fans for my needless, tired, and disrespectful Rants on this very show that I have heartlessly posted on a blog dedicated to Animation fans and Cartoonists, the majority of which cannot stand said television program.

To do so was a spit upon the legacy of Animation and upon the legacy of John Kricfalusi, who's love and passion for animation inspired a generation of young artists to shoot for the stars, and inspired a beloved (by most) era in which to make a cartoon and put your soul into it was not a crime.

I pray for your forgiveness and hope that my alternate opinions on Animation will not be ignored simply because of my opinion on one particular show, or my continued and overbearing rants on said show.

I leave you now with a short film that I hope shall both delight you and signify the amount of discussion of 90s Warner brothers Animation on John Kricfalusi's blog in the future.
